Genetically Modified Organisms Control Amendment Bill 2019 (No 33)

[3.15 p.m.] Ms ARMITAGE (Launceston) - Mr President, I also thank the Leader for the briefings provided and the people who came along and took the time speak with us and provide very useful information. Anti-discrimination Act 1998 and Religious Discrimination Bill

**Original Motion at bottom** [8.26 p.m.] Ms ARMITAGE (Launceston) - Mr President, my contribution will be short. I support section 17 of the Tasmanian act which prohibits any conduct which offends, humiliates, intimidates, insults or ridicules a person based on certain attributes including age, race, gender, disability, marital status, pregnancy, family responsibilities, gender identity and sexual orientation. In 2017, when the bill was before us to remove that section I, along with many others in this House, voted against that to keep in section 17(1) of Tasmania's anti-discrimination legislation. I do not believe it should be overridden by the draft religious discrimination bill 2019.
