Mrs Armitage (Launceston) - Mr President, I support the bill. As the Leader has said, it modernises the functions of the Tasmanian building and construction industry. It will help consumers undertaking relatively small building projects that will be exempt from the training levy.
I asked questions of the Leader previously in emails but it is worth having them on the record in some of the areas that may be raised or were raised with me previously. A building designer raised a question with me as to whether they were actually covered under this bill, and also building surveyors did. I was advised that possibly not, they can actually apply, but it might be wise for the Leader to put the answer that she gave me previously on the record. I have been advised several times that this has come up in the past as to whether building designers and building surveyors can apply for the training fund. I understand it is work that is undertaken after the building has commenced whereas they do their work beforehand.
