Mrs ARMITAGE (Question) - Can the leader please advise: are there any plans to close the York Street Adult Education LINC building in Launceston ?
Mr FARRELL - Mr President, I thank the member for Launceston for her question. A plan for adult learning facilities in Launceston was announced by the Minister for Education and Skills on 6 February 2013. The first stage of the plan is to refurbish 8 High Street to accommodate the Launceston School for Seniors and other community learning users. Consultation with key stakeholders to progress this is already underway. Other elements of the plan announced at the same time are the redevelopment of the main LINC building in Civic Square and the eventual sale of the property at York Street. As yet there is no time frame allocated to the secondary stages of the plan and all users of the York Street building will be consulted well before any further action is taken.
