Question - Nurses' Home, Howick Street - Future use
Thursday 23 May 2024
Ms ARMITAGE question to LEADER of the GOVERNMENT in the LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL, Mrs HISCUTT
[2.50 p.m.]
My question was to the Leader on 29 April and also in June 2023. I am surprised it is taking so long to get an answer about the disused nurses' home in Howick Street. Thank you.
Mrs Hiscutt - Mr President, does the member have an answer?
Ms ARMITAGE - I have not had an answer sitting here beside me, no. In June 2023, I was advised that the decision had been made that the property was surplus to Department of Health needs and the department was going to commence discussions with the Department of Treasury and Finance regarding the reuse of the building by another department or potential disposal.
With the problems that we have at the moment with homelessness and nowhere for people to live, to have a building like that, the nurses' home with beds, bathrooms sitting there empty - and it has been several years now that it has been disused. I cannot even get an answer as to what the government is going to do. As I said, in June 2023, they decided they no longer needed it. It is really getting a bit late. I would appreciate an answer, and the community would appreciate an answer to what is going to happen to it.
ANSWER
Mr President, I most humbly apologise. I have checked with my helper and we do not appear to have that question, so it has gone missing somewhere in the system.
Ms Armitage - I can send it again.
Mrs HISCUTT - Would you mind?
Ms Armitage - No, not at all.
Mrs HISCUTT - I am terribly sorry about that. It has just gone into the ether.
