STATEMENT
Delay to Greyhound Bill prolongs community uncertainty
Thursday 16 April 2026
START
I am disappointed that the Greyhound Racing Legislation Amendments (Phasing Out Reform) Bill 2025 has been delayed to a future sitting of Parliament.
This is a significant and contested proposal with real consequences for industry participants, animal welfare advocates, and the broader community. People have been waiting for clarity, and this delay extends that uncertainty.
There is strong passion on all sides, but also genuine stress for those whose livelihoods, animals, and future plans are directly affected. Deferring debate, particularly amid questions about support for the Bill, leaves people in limbo.
Parliament must do its job and make a decision. Ongoing delay risks undermining confidence and deepening division.
I urge that the Bill be brought back as soon as possible so a clear and timely outcome can be delivered.
